Essential oils are a great natural source which can easily be extracted from flowers, seeds, fruits or greens through methods such as distillation or the evaporation process. 

The potency of essential oils can bring aromatic capabilities and contains naturally strong chemical ingredients which is healing for good long term health. Natural oils such as 100% human grade unrefined extra virgin oils can be consumed whereas others can be only applied topically. 

Various oils for centuries have been practiced in ritualistic beauty therapies in alternative, Eastern, and homeopathic medicines as they are effective for many people as they provide low allergy & low-side effect risk. 

The benefit which I will be focusing on throughout this article is the power which oils have for improving overall hair length & health. Various oils can aid in the structure, texture, porosity and a healthy growth cycle.




Oils for stimulating hair growth

Coconut oil: Coconut oil provides long lasting benefits that improve the health of your hair overall. 100% extra virgin raw unrefined coconut oil can be left in as a leave in treatment to absorb into the hair and scalp for long term moisture and aid in dry flaky hair, dandruff and great for rich nourishment as coconut oil is a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal oil. 

When human grade oil is consumed or applied topically it is beneficial for shiny thicker hair as well as preventing fungal growth. 

  • apply a spoon full of coconut oil in your hair, massage through and leave in overnight. Wash your hair and style as normal. If you apply a pure coconut  mask in your hair at least once a week you’ll see rapid results for strengthening and creating a healthy growth cycle.

Lavender essential oil

Lavender oil is a hidden remedy known to speed up hair growth. Knowing that lavender oil has active nutrients that can trigger the growth of cells and reduce stress, this oil was able to create faster and stronger hair growth. Lavender oil has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which can improve scalp and split end damage.

-Mix 5 drops of lavender oil with a teaspoon of water. Massage through the scalp only and Leave it in for at least 10 minutes before hair washing and regular styling. This method is safe to apply once or twice a week.

Argan oil

Argan oil is known to moisturise hair intensely, protect your hair and scalp from everyday damage and heal split ends. By reducing breakage and brittle strands by maintaining a healthy hair and scalp, argan oil can help prevent hair loss for long term thick & fuller hair. 

  • Apply oil from your ears down ( not touching your scalp) on wet or dry hair; Ensure your application is an even distribution and not too heavy as you may result in an oily residue.

Peppermint essential oil

Peppermint oil can naturally cause a cold, tingling sensation on your scalp as it increases blood circulation to the scalp. Peppermint shampoos and conditioners are successfully applied into hair routine  as are hair growth shampoo and conditioners as they are known to stimulate scalp and result in a healthy long term growth cycle. 

This can help assist hair growth during the “anagen” (growing) phase.

Peppermint oil overall assists in producing a healthy growth number of follicles, follicle base growth & long term consistent hair growth. This is a great source to have in your daily ritual. 

  - Apply a teaspoon of peppermint essential oil in the palm of your hands and begin to rub evenly on your scalp. Massage the oil through and leave it on for 5 minutes prior to washing it out thoroughly with your daily shampoo and conditioner.

Avocado oil

Avocado oil or pure avocado mash on your scalp is naturally effective for its moisturising properties, it’s ability to heal, nourish and protect. The keratin balance and oil balance of your hair can be easily supported when either consistently consuming an avocado or applying avocado oils which will help stimulate blood flow and unclog blocked hair follicles. These properties can help prevent hairloss, assist women post pregnancy with natural hair balance and overall long term nourishment and hydration. 

 - mash half of an avocado and apply completely throughout hair and scalp. Leave in for half an hour to 45 mins. Wash with your everyday shampoo and conditioner. 

  • apply a tablespoon of avocado oil on the palm of your hands then massage in from roots to tips. This can be left in as a leave in treatment overnight. Wash gently in the morning with your regular shampoo & conditioner.

Rosemary essential oil

Rosemary is beneficial for hair thickness and the depth of hair growth as rosemary oil has the capability to improve and restore cellular growth 

In many uses, rosemary oil has been known to substitute “minoxidil”, a common hair growth solution treatment. The oil was used as there are less side effects such as scalp itching and irritations. 

  • Apply a teaspoon of rosemary oil and apply it to your scalp. Leave it in for at least 20 minutes each day for best results.

Cedarwood essential oil

Cedarwood essential oil assists in strengthening hair and hair growth. Many people have also found once introducing this oil in their routine it can slow down and even prevent hair loss by balancing the oil glands within the scalp. Cedarwood has antifungal and antibacterial properties like coconut oil; which can treat different ailments that may add to flaking abnormal skin buildup or partial hair loss.

           -Add a few drops of cedarwood essential oil in the palm of your hand. Massage it into your scalp, and leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it out thoroughly.

Lemongrass essential oil

Lemongrass oil is an effective anti flaking, dryness and dandruff treatment.

Lemongrass oil for dandruff is most effective when used daily. It’s lightweight and lighter in scent which is led to be more tolerable for frequent usage. It’s healing properties restore cell growth and assist in healthy scalp circulation. 

         - Mix a few drops into your conditioner daily, and make sure it’s massaged into your scalp for at least 5 mins. Rinse thoroughly and dry your hair as normal.

Thyme essential oil

Thyme can help assist hair growth and balance scalp moisture by stimulating the scalp and stimulating the scalp at the same time which assists in hairloss. Similar properties to cedarwood oil, Thyme oil was also found to be helpful in balancing abnormal growth patterns; However Thyme is quite potent, among the many essential oils. 

  -Apply only 2 drops into your hair and focus on the concerning areas. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, then wash out thoroughly.

Clary sage essential oil

Clary sage oil is known to treat flaking, hair growth imbalance and dandruff. It can also assist in the overall strength, in addition to supporting faster hair growth, resulting in stronger more lustrous hair overall. 

    -Mix 3 drops of clary sage oil with your chosen conditioner, or with 1 tablespoon direct onto the scalp and leave in for 5 mins.

Tea tree essential oil

Tea tree oil is one of the more popular oils as it is known to possess strong cleansing, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It can be found in organic cleaning products and organic hair care as an oil, shampoo or cream. When used topically, it assists in balancing hair follicles and increasing hair growth cycles. 

As tea tree oil is available in many concentration levels, it’s crucial to follow the manufacturers instructions. 

  • You can mix 5 drops of tea tree essential oil into your usual treatment or conditioner for everyday use. Massage for 5 mins then rinse.

Ylang-ylang essential oil

Ylang-ylang oil is beneficial for supporting sebum production and balancing natural oil base. If you have a lack in oil and sebum production which can lead to hair becoming dehydrated, split, dry & brittleness, ylang-ylang can help the overall hair texture by lowering the risk of hair damage, splitting, dryness, and elongating your trips to the hairstylist. 

        - Apply a small teaspoon of ylang-ylang oil, Massage your scalp for 5 mins.
